Weiqi

Weiqi is one of the names for Go, usually the Chinese one people first meet through pinyin, Chinese text, or a friend who learned the game under that name. The board does not change when the label changes: same intersections, same black and white stones, same rule that a group with no liberties comes off the board. If you searched the Chinese name and landed here, you did not walk into a different game. You just entered through a different door.

When to use this board

Use this page when you searched “weiqi” and want to confirm it is the same game as Go, or when you need a short explanation for someone who only knows the English name.

When not to

You already play and just want a tougher AI -> vs computer. You need the beginner loop -> how to play. You meant western chess or Xiangqi -> those live on other domains.

How

1. 01Take the short naming note first if you need it: Weiqi, Go, Baduk, and Igo are different doors into the same game family.
2. 02Tap an empty intersection on the board above and treat it like any other Go board. Nothing special changes because you arrived through the Chinese name.
3. 03If you want a longer game session after that, go back home or open vs computer and pick a difficulty.

Gotchas

• Weiqi is not Xiangqi. Xiangqi has a river, palaces, and moving pieces with named roles; Go has stones on intersections and fights over liberties.
• A search for Weiqi often mixes lessons, club pages, and shopping results. This site is just the board plus a few focused guide pages.
