What this page means by “2 player” is not two phones joining a room and not a matchmaking queue that starts after you both click Ready. It is the simpler version: two people looking at the same board, taking turns on the same device. Black plays, then white, and the game keeps moving because the phone or tablet just changes hands. The rules are the same as everywhere else on this site; the only thing that changes is that the other player is sitting right beside you.

When to use this board

Use this page when the other player is already next to you: a friend on the couch, a kid who wants the white stones, a sibling who says they can definitely beat you if you stop hiding behind the AI.

When not to

You want solo practice -> vs computer. You still need liberties explained from scratch -> how to play. You are hunting ranked strangers online -> we do not host that.

How

1. 01Black moves first, as usual. Tap an empty intersection and let the game begin without any extra setup ritual.
2. 02Pass the device, or lean over if you are both looking at the same screen. White answers on the next move.
3. 03Capture by filling the last liberty of a group. Two passes in a row settle the result on captures here.
4. 04If both of you want a longer, quieter game, widen the board later and start fresh.

Gotchas

• This is pass-and-play on one screen, not two accounts linked across two phones.
• If what you want is the person in the other chair, this page is right. If what you want is an online room, that is a different product.
• Undo steps back the last move, which matters a lot more when both players are touching the same device.
• Hints help the side to move. They are fine as a teaching crutch, but not exactly a proud secret weapon.
